A Big Spring Target - Justin Grapes

Is targeting a double figure tench a bit ambitious for a blog or even the kiss of death for my angling success? Perhaps, but I’m nothing if not determined, so here goes…

With the river season over, it was time to dust off the tench gear and I was looking forward to being attached to some hard fighting spring tench. After I had put so much effort and time into the end of the river season, I gave myself a couple of weeks off to re-charge the batteries and to spend some much needed quality time with my (very understanding) other half.

The first few sessions of the season so far have been overnighters after work, so I’ve been fishing for bream. This is no mean feat on my chosen venue as there are only a handful in the whole 30 acres. As expected, there hasn't been any action yet but, as they say, you have to be in it to win it .With the weather being so warm, the buds on the trees and the insect life had come early this year and I was hoping that the tench would be more cooperative in the feeding department, too. As of yet, it seems that the warming conditions haven't affected the tench much and they are still in their winter areas over deeper water.

I'm going to try and keep the updates as regular as possible in this quest in the hopes that, fingers crossed, I can get close to achieving my target. I'm hoping the tench will start to become more active by the end of the month and I know that the bigger fish tend to come by the end of May. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy some action along the way and share some hints and tips with you all whilst I’m at it. So, until the next blog, tight lines and enjoy your fishing!
