J W Youngshas been producing centrepin reels for fly fishing and other river work for the better part of a century and, for many fly anglers, it is the brand to beat terms of production quality and design excellence. All the reels that J W Youngs manufactures are traditional in both appearance and manufacturing quality, and this is equally true for this Purist II Centrepin.
For J W Youngs high quality simply isn’t good enough – its reels have to reach a new level of manufacturing distinction. This is why the main body and spool of the Purist II haven’t just been manufactured from the highest grade bar stock aluminium but they have also been bronze anodised, too. This not only gives the reel unique protection and extreme durability but it also gives the Purist II its distinctive bronzed finish. This bronzed finish is a classy edition to an already superior class reel and it ensures that it will look beautiful on any river or fly rod setup. The reel attaches to your rod via a brass rod plate, too, which has been machined from the same bar stock as the body. This ensures the whole outfit is not only held extremely securely on your rod but it also gives a clean finish to the reel.
The back plate of the reel looks every bit as classy as the main body of the reel, thanks to its gold script finish. The back plate doesn’t just look good, however, and it features an on/off click drag and offers support to the steel spindle. Not only this but it also features a removable line guard. This allows you to fit your guard in four positions for ultimate line safety. The spool on the reel is ventilated in the traditional style and has a quick-release setting for easy spool changes. This spool is kept in perfect alignment thanks to six nickel silver spokes, ensuring you can utilise its full power when you need it the most.
As with all superior quality J W Youngs reels, the Purist II comes with a certificate of authenticity.
