Junior Canal Championship

The Angling Trust, Canal & River Trust and Izaak Walton of the Stafford Anglers Association have come together to organise the National Junior Canal Championship. Participants between the ages of 8-18 will compete in three categories; Cadets (8-9), Juniors (10-15) and Youth (16-18), there is also a Junior Pairs competition.

The Championships will be a celebration of the Canal & River Trust’s 2019 Let’s Fish! campaign which, throughout the year has provided around 200 free angling taster sessions around the country to encourage young people to take up the sport.

The aim of the Junior Canal Championships is to show the next generation of anglers how prolific the nations canals can be, namely the Onn section of the Shropshire union canal in the tranquil village of Church Eaton, where the event will be held on Sunday 15th September.

Competitors will be representing regions all over the UK, anglers from as far afield as Northern Ireland and South Wales have already confirmed their place.

Angling Direct have chosen to sponsor the event, as well as provide signage, the winners trophy and, as an extra incentive, a goody bag which includes a £5 Angling Direct gift card to offset the £5 entry fee the junior anglers pay to enter the competition.

As anticipation for the event builds there is more good news, the event will be broadcast via Facebook Live, so you can take in the spectacle from your sofa if you are unable to attend the event in person.
