THE POWER KEEPS ON PUMPING. If you’re going to lay down some serious dosh for a power pack, it should be one you’ll still be using when the iPhone 20’s out. This incredible pack from RidgeMonkey is just that…

For all the innovations present in smartphones, tablets, laptops and cameras – they still fail to make any headway on the spec that matters most: battery life. CARPology knows only too well how many charging packs/devices are available on the market – heck, we’ve seemingly tried them all, but nothing – and we mean NOTHING – comes close to the Vault PowerPack from RidgeMonkey.

21 charges of an iPhone 6, seven charges of an iPad Air and four charges of a laptop makes for extraordinary reading. It’ll even charge portable refrigerators! All of this power is thanks to the lithium polymer internals which has a huge 264Wh capacity and is delivered via a 12v cigarette style socket and two 5v USB ports.

There’s more to this battery pack than sheer horsepower. Rather than a big clunky chunk of plastic, the Vault comes finished with a soft silicon exterior and is some 70% smaller and lighter (1.2kg) than conventional sealed lead acid bivvy packs – approximately the size of that free rig guide you received with this very issue. It also comes complete with protective port covers and a neoprene carry case.

When it comes to providing a power source, the Vault delivers like no other charging device. And whilst at first glance the price tag might make your wallet break out into a slight sweat, it will ensure you’re playing Candy Crush, watching YouTube and double tapping Instagram pics indefinably whilst bankside.

Key Features - Lithium Polymer internals - Simultaneous dual voltage output - Huge 264Wh capacity: 20+ charges of an iPhone 5S - 70% smaller and lighter than conventional sealed lead acid (SLA) bivvy packs - Dimensions: 205mm x 115mm x 40mm - Weight: 1275g - Capacity: 264Wh / 22Ah @ 12v / 52,800mAh @ 5v - Output: 12v 13A socket / twin 5v 2.1A USB - Comes complete with protective port covers and a neoprene carry case

How to keep your battery pack in tip-top condition 1. The days of the lengthy first charge are long gone. You can use lithium products straight out of the box. 2. Likewise, regularly running a lithium battery from full to flat and back to full is not recommended – they’re actually happiest when kept between 20% and 80% charge with regular top ups. 3. If storing for long periods, try to do so at around 50% charge. Storing a lithium battery at 100% isn’t recommended and NEVER store when empty. 4. All batteries hate the cold. In the depths of winter, try to keep all of your battery-powered devices nice and snug.
