Nathan Highleys New Carping Campaign...

Angling Direct Norwich shop Carp consultant Nathan Highley has been out and about fishing his new syndicate water. Nathan, who’s recently joined the Charity Lakes complex in Lenwade, fished his first session last week. Fishing for 48 hours, Nathan managed to come up with the goods, landing two nice Carp, not the biggest in the world at 15lb and 16lb but a great start on the new water.

Nathan commented…

It was a fantastic start on the new water and even though they weren’t the biggest in the lake, they were a very welcome sight! The weather was extremely cold and I was battered with a cold Easterly wind for the whole 48 hours, which made fishing pretty tough. In fact on the Monday, just before I landed the first fish, the lake was completely frozen over with a fine layer of cat ice.

My approach to the session was nothing complicated and nothing out of the ordinary! I used my good old faithful combi rigs, tied with size 6 Gardner Talon tip hooks and a decent length of Gardner Leadcore. Mounted on the hooks were the CC Moore Northern Special Pop-Ups, which were fished over the top of a scattering of CC Moore bottom baits.

To catch two doubles, in my first session on the lake, in the conditions was very rewarding indeed! I’m just so eager to get back down and fish in some proper spring weather! I reckon another few weeks and the big residents of the lake will soon start to wake up and get on the feed.
