Best Bream Of The Year For Our Specimen Ace Darryn Stolworthy!

Checking through my emails this morning, I noticed there was one left un-read, titled 17lb 7oz, from specimen ace Darryn Stolworthy. My first thoughts were Carp, Pike possibly even a Catfish… but as I opened the attachment you can imagine my surprise as I saw the sight of a Bream, a huge Bream an absolute dustbin lid of a fish, certainly no Skimmer!!!

It is in fact the biggest Bream of the year so far and a new PB for proud captor Darryn Stolworthy!

Darryn has been focusing his attentions on an ultra-tough local gravel pit, which is home to a handful of really big slabs, up until that fish the Bream had eluded him, with not even a sight of his target species.

On his eighth overnight session of the campaign this all changed! After spodding out a large bed of Casters, Corn and Pellet he tackled up as normal, with simple inline rigs and short hooklinks with the hair on each hook, baited with imitation Corn.

At first light the following day he was woken by the sound of his alarms, initially all thoughts pointed to the swirling wind, which had been a problem throughout the session, but he soon discovered that the disturbance wasn’t being caused by mother nature!

‘The weather was terrible and I was dozing in my sleeping bag when my alarm bleeped three times and then stopped. A couple of minutes later the same thing happened, but the bobbin hadn’t moved an inch.

My mate was stood next to the rods and he said it was just the wind, but literally just as he’d finished his sentence the bobbin danced to the top of the butt ring and I was hooked into this wonderful specimen!

The fish looked absolutely huge in the water and I must admit I probably let out a few swear word when I saw the big girl in the net! It’s strange as normally by this time of year I’ve seen a few large fish, both on the bank and in the water, but this year (perhaps because of the tough weather) its been very quiet! In fact the first fish I’d seen was this one, laying safely on my mat!’

The monster was landed on his third rod, cast to the edge of the spodded area; the successful rig was constructed from 10lb Preston Powerline tied to a size 10 Gamakatsu Hook.

Everyone at Angling Direct would like to say a massive congratulations!
