SET TO IMPRESS

Chub are out to impress with their 2018 collection – and along with a healthier bank balance, you’ll also be a damn sight more comfortable in twenty-eighteen…

This new collection has drawn upon all of that experience to produce an impressive and innovative range of new, practical headlamp solutions.

SAT-A-LITE Bivvy Light RC Deluxe

This light’s genius is its dual usability. It has three brightness settings (up to 100 lumens), two light colour options (red and white), a magnetic attachment system and up to 8hrs “burn time” to keep you seeing in the dark. It will also double as a power pack should your iPhone (predictabably) run out of battery.

Chub SAT-A-LITE Headtorch 170

This 170 model has a secure head mount which consists of soft and stretchy straps that are brought together with an easy-to-adjust elastic toggle system, making it very unlikely to slip off at the wrong moment. The LEDs that have been used are made by leading manufacturer Cree Inc. and pump out a 175 lumen beam of light that can carry up to 95m on full setting. This can be turned down through two more settings for working closer to the water’s edge. The LED output can be changed from white to red for even more stealth because red is the first colour to ‘wash out’ for fish in fading light but the human eye can still register it.

Chub SAT-A-LITE Headtorch 200

The Chub SAT-A-LITE Headtorch 200 has a strong but flexible elasticated headband which can be slipped over the head and worn comfortably around your neck as you snooze or get on with other things under the bivvy light and, at 130g, it’s no heavy load. It produces 185 lumens of bright white light that can reach out up to 95m at full power and will burn continuously on the lowest setting for 180hrs. You can also switch it to produce red light for ultimate stealth on the bankside. Even if it gets a bit frisky when reeling in a fish, this torch is splash-proof and will take that in its stride. It also comes with a textured and rubberised on/off switch to make turning it on under pressure that much easier.

Chub SAT-A-LITE Headtorch Rechargable 250

Let’s look at the power first – this comes from a 2800 mAH rechargeable battery which is situated at the back of the head and is well-attached to its newly-designed soft and comfortable strapping. On a full charge and on the lowest output setting, this battery will provide continuous power for up to 100 hrs. If you combine this with charging from a solar-powered battery pack or from the USB/cigarette charger in your car (using the supplied cable) then you have an off-grid lighting solution that doesn’t generate a pile of spent batteries.

The light itself uses Cree XPG LEDs, a highly efficient option from a world leader in LED development. At their brightest, these LEDs pump out an impressive 230 lumens and this can be stepped down with two lesser settings to reduce the amount of light you spill when close to your swim. For a much stealthier option, a little red screen can be pulled over the front of the torch to produce a red light that is less disturbing for fish. The use of this little screen means you’re getting as much power as possible from the white LEDs instead of switching to separate red LEDs, which tend to have much less output capability.
