Reducing Plastic Waste with Korda: Steps Towards Sustainability

At Angling Direct, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond just providing top-notch fishing tackle. We are actively collaborating with our suppliers to pioneer initiatives that significantly reduce packaging waste in our operations. One shining example of this effort is the remarkable Korda Waste Initiative.

Partnering for a Greener Future

In a joint effort with Korda, we recognised the potential for immense positive change. After thoughtful discussions and careful planning, we embarked on a journey to transform our business operations for the better.

The core idea was simple yet groundbreaking: Angling Direct would provide Korda with our reusable tote boxes, enabling them to transport their fishing tackle to our warehouse in an eco-friendly manner.

Embracing Reusable Totes for a Sustainable Shift

Since 2019, Korda has been leading the way by shipping their fishing tackle in reusable totes. This simple change has resulted in significant reductions in plastic tape and cardboard box waste.

This shift has not only streamlined the warehousing process but also demonstrated the immense potential for reducing transit packaging wastage.

How Korda's Plastic Waste Reduction Works

Once the fresh batch of Korda Fishing Tackle arrives at the Angling Direct warehouse, the smaller items are thoughtfully organised within the tote boxes.

This preparation ensures that the tackle is readily available for picking and dispatching as soon as online orders are placed. This efficient approach not only optimises the workflow for our warehouse staff but also contributes to a substantial reduction in packaging waste.

A Positive Impact for Angling

As of 2023, our collaboration with Korda has yielded impressive results. Previously, we used to receive 7 pallets of tackle from Korda every week. Before the Korda Waste Initiative, each of these pallets contained about 30 cardboard boxes, secured with an average of 1.4 meters of tape. This practice generated a staggering 210 cardboard boxes and utilized 294 meters of tape per week.

However, thanks to our concerted efforts, Korda's monthly tape consumption has been drastically reduced by approximately 1176 meters.

To put this in perspective, that's as tall as 18,092 Korda Tackle Boxes stacked on top of each other!

This achievement is a testament to what collaboration and sustainability-driven innovation can achieve.

Pioneering Sustainability in the Fishing Tackle Industry

Both Angling Direct and Korda are proud to be innovators in the fishing tackle industry's sustainability movement. We firmly believe that as suppliers, it's our responsibility to protect the UK's waterways from the detrimental effects of plastics and recyclables.

By minimising our use of tape and cardboard, we are not only aligning with our ethical values but also setting a benchmark for the industry. We're excited about the prospect of extending similar agreements to other forward-thinking fishing tackle brands.
