Chinook II Charter Fishing Report – November I

Stacks of Codling!

So far the this year the Autumn fishing has been fantastic with big numbers of Codling pushing inshore, along most parts of the coastline. The fish have also moved into the Estuaries, which is great news for us, as it means even on very windy days we can still normally get out somewhere and enjoy some fishing.

A lot of the fish around at the moment have averaged 2lb in size, however there are also a few better fish mixed in, with fish of 3-4lb not uncommon.

There has also been a few Whiting around, however this year they seem to be almost out numbered by the Codling! Already, in terms of numbers, it's certainly one of the best seasons I can remember for many years.

The majority of the fish are falling to large Lugworm and Squid baits fished hard on the bottom.

As well as the Whiting and Codling there are also still a few Thornbacks to be caught and providing we don't get a prolonged cold spell, the majority of these will stay inshore all winter. The average size of these fish isn't bad either and in fact just last week, Matt Smith boated a beauty of just over 14lb!

The piers and beaches have also been fishing well, with decent mixed bags of fish falling on the better tides. Codling, Whiting, Pout and Dogfish have all been landed on all the usual baits, with standard Lug and Squid offerings picking out the better fish.

As the water temperatures drop things should only get better and the average size of fish should only increase! Prospects are the best for many years so don't delay, get out and go fishing today!
