Float Fishing The Traditional Waggler - Fun Session!

After a series of big matches, Fish'O Mania and Maver Match This qualifiers where the pressure has really been on, we decided to get out on the banks for a general pleasure fishing session. To go back to basics and to go back to where our fishing began - a simple session using float fishing tactics, with the traditional waggler.

Over the past ten years the Waggler has almost become a forgotten method, with the increase in popularity in big Carp fishing and in the production of quality Poles at cheaper prices, this traditional form of fishing has almost become redundant, a forgotten art.

Back in my youth I can remember float fishing was the only method I knew/understood, me and my Dad would often visit the local commercial after school armed with a pint of red maggots and a tin of Sweetcorn and we'd simply fish, fish for whatever came along! I'd spend hours staring at the red or orange top of a straight Waggler, I have such fond memories of it and it was a truly exciting way to fish and a method I wish I used more now.

Many years on, after serving my angling apprenticeship it's a method I very rarely use as there's very few cases, especially in match fishing situations, where a float on a running line can beat a pole. However every now and again, in a no pressure situation, it's a lovely way to fish and you still can't beat the feeling of watching your float slide away!

So in this video we re-visit our youth and simply fish for the love of fishing, fishing a lake which we knew was crammed with fish, of all different species, we set out simply to catch whatever was in our peg, with the main aim being a few simple enjoyable hours pleasure fishing.

To find out exactly how we got on and perhaps find out a few tips along the way, watch this latest installment, from the waters edge.
