Roger Webb Carp Challenge

The untimely passing of Roger Webb meant that he never achieved his vision of getting the BDAA members together for a carp fishing extravaganza. This year, just like last year, fellow BDAA members got together in his memory for the 2019 BDAA Carp Challenge, at Henlow Bridge Lakes in Bedfordshire.

The competition featured 8 pairs of anglers fishing for 48 hours, in which 2,500lbs of carp was caught! A fitting tribute to a trustee who just wanted disabled people to carp fish together and the BDAA, in association with Angling Direct, made it happen.

Events like this one are dependent on the people who attend and help each other overcome difficult physical and mental obstacles, for a mutual gain. The trustees were proud to support such a diverse group of people, who hailed from all over the UK; Bedfordshire, Essex, Suffolk, Peterborough, Cheshire, West and East Midlands, Warwickshire and Liverpool.

The anglers were not just there in memory of Roger, there was also some serious competition with Angling Direct providing the prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. In third place and receiving £15 of AD vouchers, was Jamie Trim. The runners up, in second place was Brian Fereday and Lee Butler who received £50 of AD vouchers. Finally, in first position, receiving £100 of AD vouchers, and the 2019 BDAA Carp Challenge champions were, Matt Skelhon and Darren Greenfield – Congratulations.
