J W Young Heritage Centrepin Reel
Designed by fishing legend John Wilson MBE, this Heritage Reel from J W Youngs is a classic centrepin that is perfect for centrepin work across the board, from trotting for roach to stret pegging for carp. A reel for the discerning angler who likes to control their gear (rather than the other way around) this reel features a micro-adjustable disc drag so you can control the amount of drag you experience as you use the reel. It also features a lightweight unique adjustable line guard, which can be removed if required, this reel can be used easily even in the windiest of conditions. Two ball bearings ensure that this reel performs smoothly throughout its lifespan.
With a stunning deep green anodised finish and beautiful gold script on the back plate, this reel is as much a piece of art as it is a piece of technology. Indeed, this reel comes complete with a certificate of authenticity, so you can be confident that you are receiving the real deal.
J W Youngs has been producing top quality reels for over 100 years, when James William Young first began working for Allcocks tackle at the end of the 19th century. He soon realised he had a flare for reel design and, with the help of his sons, started up his own reel production business. This business grew from strength to strength. The only hault in the production of J W Youngs reels came during the Second World War, when the J W Youngs factory was used to produce the firing mechanism for the famous Spitfire planes. Other than this small gap, there has always been a J W Young reel on the market for all of the company’s long history – an enviable feat in a fast paced and quick changing industry. Old J W Young reels are much sought after in the collectors circuits and you can find ample videos on YouTube of anglers showcasing their best rare finds. This new John Wilson Heritage Centrepin represents a new era of J W Youngs reels.
