The Coleman 4AA Pack-Away Lantern is just 3 3/16' tall and weighs a mere handful of 8 oz for backpackers and other trekkers who value innovative performance in petite packages. Its Pack-Away design allows it to telescope open to a height of nearly 5'. Yet, it provides an uncommonly bright LED all-around illumination thanks to the technologically advanced Cree XLamp XR-E LED and a highly efficient conical reflector, which amplify the surprisingly bright 95 lumens of light. It has about 12 hours of run time on the low setting and six hours on the brightest setting. The lantern also has an emergency strobe feature, which will run up to 75 hours on a fresh set of four AA batteries. The strobe setting is a great emergency tool like when youve broken down on the road, or want to get back to camp at night. It uses common AA batteries, so batteries can be interchanged with other electronic devices if necessary in an emergency. A simple push-button control, large enough to find and use even when wearing gloves or mittens, is located on the top surface for easy operation. An automatic shutoff design ensures the light goes out when the lantern is closed, saving batteries and preventing accidental operation while in a pack. A bail handle can be flipped up to hang the lantern in a tent or from a limb, but the handle snaps in a closed position out of the way for other uses or stowage. A shock-resistant and non-slip ABS outer shell is not only durable for the hard knocks prevalent in the field, it is also weather-resistant.
