Angling Direct knows that you care how information about you is used by us, and we appreciate you trust that we handle and use your information carefully, sensibly and in accordance with applicable laws. This notice describes our privacy policy. By visiting www.anglingdirect.co.uk (the “Site”), you are accepting and consenting to the practices described in this Privacy Policy notice.

The information we gather from customers helps us personalise and continually improve your shopping experience at Angling Direct.

Here are the types of information we gather.

Information You Give Us

It also includes information you provide when you register to use our Site, search for a product or place an order on our Site and may include your name, address, e-mail address and phone number. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of many of our features. We use the information that you provide for such purposes as responding to your requests, customising future shopping for you, improving our stores, and communicating with you.

We will also use this information:

- to carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us and to provide you with the information and products that you request from us;

- to provide you with information about other goods we offer that are similar to those that you have already purchased or enquired about;

- to provide you, or permit selected third parties to provide you, with information about goods we feel may interest you. If you are an existing customer, we will only contact you by electronic means (e-mail or SMS) with information about goods similar to those which were the subject of a previous sale or negotiations of a sale to you. If you are a new customer, and where we permit selected third parties to use your data, we (or they) will contact you by electronic means only if you have consented to this.

- to notify you about changes to our Site or service;

- to ensure that content from our Site is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer.

Financial Details

When you place orders with us you will provide us with financial and credit card information. All credit card numbers are encrypted in the software when the order is placed using 128-bit encryption by the financial institutions we use (e.g. Paypal).

Examples of the information we collect and analyse include the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; login; e-mail address; password; computer and connection information such as browser type and version, operating system, and platform; purchase history; the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) clickstream to, through, and from our Site, including date and time; cookie number; and products you viewed or searched for.

We will use this information:

  • to administer our site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research and statistical purposes;
  • to improve our Site to ensure that content is presented in the most effective manner for you and for your computer;
  • as part of our efforts to keep our Site safe and secure;
  • to measure or understand the effectiveness of advertising we serve to you and others, and to deliver relevant advertising to you;

Cookies

Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computers hard drive through your Web browser to enable our systems to recognise your browser and to provide features such as automatic login and permanent shopping carts for storage of items in your Shopping Cart between visits.

Our Site uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our Site. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our Site and also allows us to improve our Site.

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer if you agree. We may use the following cookies:

Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our website, use a shopping cart or make use of e-billing services.

Analytical/performance cookies. They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.

Functionality cookies. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).

The "help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. However, cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of Angling Direct’s best features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

Furthermore a number of companies offer utilities designed to help you visit websites anonymously. You should note that if you choose to do this we will not be able to provide you with a personalised experience at Angling Direct and you may not be able to access all parts of our Site. We do however want you to be aware that these tools exist.

E-mail Communications

To help us make e-mails more useful and interesting, we often receive a confirmation when you open e-mail from Angling Direct if your computer supports such capabilities. We also compare our customer list to lists received from other companies, in an effort to avoid sending unnecessary messages to our customers. If you do not want to receive e-mail or other mail from us, please adjust your account to reflect this by selecting unsubscribe in the newsletter.

Information from Other Sources

For reasons such as improving personalisation of our service (for example, providing better product recommendations or special offers that we think will interest you), we might receive information about you from other sources and add it to our account information. We also sometimes receive updated delivery and address information from our shippers or other sources so that we can correct our records and deliver your next purchase or communication more easily.

Does Angling Direct share the information it receives?

Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and we are not in the business of selling it to others. You agree that we have the right to share your personal information with companies within our group, which means our subsidiaries.

Beyond our group of companies we may share your information with selected third parties as described below.

Agents:

We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, delivering packages, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analysing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.

Business Transfers:

As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy other businesses, stores or assets. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets. Also, in the unlikely event that Angling Direct, or substantially all of its assets are acquired, customer information will of course be one of the transferred assets.

Compliance with laws and protection of Angling Direct and Others

We may release account and other personal information if we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation; or to enforce or apply our terms and conditions and other agreements; or protect the rights, property, or safety of Angling Direct, our users, or others. This includes exchanging information with law enforcement agencies, or companies and organisations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

With Your Consent

Other than as set out above, you will receive notice when information about you might go to third parties, and you will have an opportunity to choose not to share the information.

Where we store your personal information

Once we have received your information, we will use appropriate and robust procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access to your information and to meet our obligations to you under Data Protection legislation. All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers. Any payment transactions will be encrypted using SSL technology.

Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our Site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted to our Site; any transmission is at your own risk.

What information can I access?

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the Act. Any access request will be subject to a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.

You can add or update certain information on pages such as those listed in the "My Account" pages. When you update information, we usually keep a copy of the prior version for our records. If you do not want to receive e-mail or other mail from us, please adjust your account to reflect this in the newsletter.

Angling Direct does not sell products for purchase by children. We may sell children’s products for purchase by adults. If you are under 18, you may use anglingdirect.co.uk only with involvement of a parent or guardian.
