A crossbreed of a crucian carp and a common carp, the F1 carp have just two barbles rather than four and will never grow to massive sizes like some other carp species as F1 carp typically weigh between 2-4lbs and occasionally hitting 10lbs weight. F1 carp are a favourite amongst match and coarse anglers as they feed all year-round, making them a great catch for fishing tournaments. You can identify an F1 carp by its hunched back appearance and golden-coloured body which is similar to the crucian carp.
This strain of carp is immune to the Koi Herpes Virus (KHV), a virus that is associated with a significant level of mortality in species that are closely related to Common Carp. Commercial fishery owners should be happy since it means a mortality rate of 80-100% in waters that may become infected.
