Unlike some other carp, grass carp don’t have barbules and are a dark olive shading, with brownish-yellow colouring on the sides and a white belly. Grass carp are often delicate surface feeders due to their lack of barbules and they can also be identified by its elongated body with minuscule, tightly packed scales.
In western Europe and in the USA, the main interest in grass carp has been in using it as a biological weed control agent for which it has been introduced.
