Daiwa Prorex XR Baitcaster Rod
When you’re angling for predator fish, it’s always a fine balance between using tried and tested tactics and experimenting to get that much-needed edge over your quarry. How will you lure them in? Will you use a crankbait or a shad? Jigstreamer or spinnerbait? Filament or braided line? You’ll try in the early morning, at dusk, or you might end up blanking silently all day. You’ll probably wish you were on the bank when you’ve taken the bother to get the boat going, and vice versa. You’ll accept it all, however, as the ongoing price for ultimate success.
Sitting at the centre of all these variables and uncertain outcomes is your rod set-up, and you could boost your chances significantly by making a Daiwa Prorex XR Baitcaster Rod your main weapon of choice. Its blanks are constructed from HVF carbon that has X45 technology woven into it. High Volume Carbon Fibre produces a light and tough material which is orientated in layers that lie along, perpendicular to, and at 45° to the rod’s length. This reduces twist during your casts for better accuracy and the conversion of your casting action into longer distances.
A slimline V-Joint between the spigot and the blank reduces weight and rod profile but also guarantees an even bending curve for better distribution of forces when under tension. The XR Baitcaster Rod also has Alconite guide rings made by Fuji. These have a lightweight titanium frame with Alconite centres offering almost the same resilience as standard silicon carbide centres while coming in up to 35% lighter.
This is a rod with a fast action that results in sensitive and rapid power for hooksetting, reducing the movement required to produce the leverage on the line that you need. The XR Baitcaster Rod comes with a Fuji reel seat that’s open at the bottom to allow two fingers to be in direct contact with the blank. The result is an improved feel and awareness of what may be happening below the water’s surface. All this is topped off by a high-density EVA handle for comfort and flexibility.
There are several variants of this predator fishing rod, each for a specific angling context:
PXX762HFB-AS: a lighter rod for catching pike, offsets the extra weight of oversized tackle, length: 8ft 5in
PXX802XHFB-AS: a stiff and lightweight used for larger lures up to 120g, very versatile, length: 7ft 3in
PXX692XXHFB-AS: a slightly longer jerk stick that works well with shads and lures up to 150g, without excessive stiffness, length: 7ft 5in
PXX862XXHFB-AS: a slightly longer and stiffer version of the 802XHFB, can make bigger shads fly well, length: 7ft 8in
PXX742MFB-AS: a very fast-action rod for perch influenced by the popular Daiwa Tatula rods, but with a slightly longer form, length: 6ft 7in
