Originally ‘Greys of Alnwick’, founder Malcolm Grey launched the iconic Keilder fly rod series – a mid-market high performance series that soon gained respect in the local angling community. This was to be the beginning of a strong reputation that was to last over fifty years. Further fly products were launched over the following years, including fly lines, reels, and clothing.
Soon the brand expanded into carp fishing and sea fishing, with the Power Play and High Power rod series launching for the respective areas. This expansion spread Greys name further, and the brand become one of the most respected across the United Kingdom.
In 1999, House of Hardy acquired Greys, after noticing an opportunity to compete in complimentary areas of the market. Together they brought out yet another superb Greys fly rod, the Greys GRX, which took the fly market by storm. It was the best selling Greys rod quickly after it launched, and further established Greys as the tackle brand to own. Many of the products launched in the early 21st century remain firm favourites among anglers today, including the GRXi, Prodigy, and Apollo ranges. The fact that these products have stood the test of time indicates the quality of these initial designs.
In 2003 House of Hardy re-named at Hardy and Greys Ltd, showcasing the importance of the Greys brand to the company.

In 2013 Greys joined the Pure Fishing family. This move invigorated Greys, and gave it a renewed focus on global marker presence. Greys is now a trusted name the world over.
