Founded in 1968, Greys currently manufactures a full range of carp, coarse, predator, sea, and fly fishing tackle. Marketing itself towards the discerning angler, Greys produces high quality products that enable you to discover new experiences and explore further in the water during your time at the waters edge.
Originally ‘Greys of Alnwick’, founder Malcolm Grey launched the iconic Keilder fly rod series – a mid-market high performance series that soon gained respect in the local angling community. This was to be the beginning of a strong reputation that was to last over fifty years. Further fly products were launched over the following years, including fly lines, reels, and clothing.
Soon the brand expanded into carp fishing and sea fishing, with the Power Play and High Power rod series launching for the respective areas. This expansion spread Greys name further, and the brand become one of the most respected across the United Kingdom.
In 1999, House of Hardy acquired Greys, after noticing an opportunity to compete in complimentary areas of the market. Together they brought out yet another superb Greys fly rod, the Greys GRX, which took the fly market by storm. It was the best selling Greys rod quickly after it launched, and further established Greys as the tackle brand to own. Many of the products launched in the early 21st century remain firm favourites among anglers today, including the GRXi, Prodigy, and Apollo ranges. The fact that these products have stood the test of time indicates the quality of these initial designs.
In 2003 House of Hardy re-named at Hardy and Greys Ltd, showcasing the importance of the Greys brand to the company.
Greys fishing has always prided itself on its reputation for innovative, high quality products that are reliable on the bank and provide excellent value for money. This reputation spreads from Greys commitment to technology, and its design and product team constantly experiment with the latest in tackle technology in order to provide you with products that perform on the cutting edge of innovation. The Toreon Nano particle carp rod is an excellent example of exactly how this technological innovation has been applied with great success, and creates an experienced performance advantage on the bank. The continued success of this product is testament to the results the anglers who use it experience.
GreysFishing, the YouTube channel for the company, provides comprehensive beginners guides for fly fishing – Greys original specialism. It also features some more general videos on both fly and carp fishing, for those anglers with more experience under their belts. The channel also showcases the latest products released by the brand, so you can see exactly how these products perform before you rush to buy them.
In 2013 Greys joined the Pure Fishing family. This move invigorated Greys, and gave it a renewed focus on global marker presence. Greys is now a trusted name the world over. Pure Fishing also gave Greys the ability to maximise the technical expertise for which the Greys brand is known. The slogan of ‘trust your instinct’ captures the ethos of Greys, and the company’s belief that angling is a way of life, not just a hobby.
