The Shimano Aero CI4+ FA HG Reel has been designed to be completely compatible with the existing Aero range of tackle. However, this reel boasts some significant improvements on the other models in the Aero range, not least the introduction of CI4+ material.

CI4+ was originally designed by Shimano’s competitive cycling division, which was looking for a new material that was lightweight whilst still offering the structural integrity that traditional metal materials achieve. The result was CI4, quickly followed by the even lighter CI4+. This material offered everything the cycling division wanted and Shimano’s fishing division soon realised that it was also the perfect material to be used in the brand’s top end fishing reels. The Shimano Aero CI4+ FA HG weight a mere 280g and it is noticeably lighter than all of the previous Aero concept reels. Normally reels would have to sacrifice spool size in order to achieve this weight, however thanks to CI4+ the Aero CI4+ FA HG is still able to boast an oversized AR-C spool.

AR-C spools are Shimano’s go to when the brand is looking to create a versatile reel that can hold a huge amount of line so you can achieve those perfect distance casts. With its patented angled spool lip, the AR-C spool lets line whip from the spool without any loss of speed and without risk of line twist or wrap-arounds. On the retrieval end of the spectrum, the Aero CI4+ FA HG has a quick 5.8:1 gear ratio. This retrieves over a metre of line per handle turn, making this the ideal reel for distance fishing. Fitted with Shimano’s expert X Ship gearing, this reel has an exceptionally high torque which allows you to be able to tackle those large and hard fighting fish with confidence.
