Shimano Ultegra XS-C Reel The Ultegra XS-C Reel series is a new family of reels from Shimano. Representing a significant improvement on the original Ultegra XS, this is a unique collection of four reels which all utilise the same great technology with distinctive results. With two compact options (4500 and 5500) that have been designed with specialist fishing in mind and two huge big pit options (10000 and 14000) to please the distance casters, this is a reel that caters for all. The Ultegra XS-C is fitted with a wealth of technology that wouldn’t look out of place on a reel twice its price. Instant Drag is Shimano’s patented drag system which allows you to quickly and easily switch between free spool and ‘fight’ drag with the turn of lever. Super Stopper II completely eliminates back-play on the reel, as well as any additional free movement in the handle, when you’ve set up in anti-reverse. Aero-Wrap II combined with Shimano’s slow oscillation gear system ensures that line lay is perfect every time. Uniform and tangle free, this system allows you maintain energy during your cast – a feature that really comes into play with the big pit sizes of this reel. The AR-C spool, featuring Shimano’s patented angled spool lip, allows the line to leave the spool with minimal friction. This is another feature that will please the distance casters as it allows for increased distance and accuracy in your cast. This is a reel that is built to last, and Floating Shaft II technology works to reduce friction between the drive shaft and the pinion. This is the point at which many reels suffer the most from general wear and tear. Shimano’s system ensures that this reel can last exponentially longer before showing signs of wear whilst simultaneously increasing the efficiency of the reel. Four ball bearings, half of which are corrosion resistant, ensure that friction in the internal mechanism is reduced to a minimum.
