Winter Twenty For Michael Stewart

Our stock manager Michael Stewart has carried on his campaign on his Cambs syndicate water and despite the less than favourable conditions he's still been winkling a fish or two out! Here's a little write up from his most recent session...

After a blank the week before I was keen to avoid another repeat of that!

I arrived to an empty lake and after two laps of the pond I thought I’d seen a little disturbance in the north east corner where I’d seen fish show the last couple of weeks so on this I decided to drop into that area.

The rods were quickly dispatched to spots I’d fished before, it was just a case of marking out the ‘wraps’ and getting the baits out there. Hookbaits were my own 15mm white chocolate and coconut ‘specials’, with two rods fished on Chod rigs and one on a solid PVA bag. I scattered around sixty baits between all three of the rods and let the area settle, the traps had been set!

Nothing occurred Friday night but a couple of shows and some vicious liners Saturday had me sticking to the plan and staying put.

I was awake at around midnight Saturday and could hear/see the odd show in the area so put the kettle on for a brew and sat there watching the water for an hour or so.

Two more shows but no action so I got back in the sleeping bag and dozed off only to be awoken by a few beeps on the middle rod before it tanked off, at first I thought it was a cat because it wasn’t stopping and wiped out the other two rods! But it eventually turned out to be a nice mirror of 22lb 12oz that had fallen to the solid bag and a blank was avoided a few ‘difficult’ self takes as the fish was just as energetic on the bank as it had been in the fight! All rods re-done I was out for the count till 8am and with no more action by 10am so I spread 2kg of bait about before doing the off!
