The Week Ahead…

The Prospects…

I’m not going to dwell too much on the weather this week, as in all honesty there isn’t really much to say!

For the last couple of weeks the weather has remained pretty much the same, temperatures have consistently hovered around the 18-20 degree mark and it’s been overcast, with spells of both sunshine and showers. Overall it’s not been too bad, but as we roll into September I think everyone would agree that the summer is slowly slipping away. I’ve got my fingers crossed that we can keep hold of it for at least another month though and I certainly won’t be putting my shorts away just yet!

This week looks very similar to the past few too with everything mentioned above set to feature. The odd shower, plenty of cloud, sunny spells and temperatures around the 20 degree mark. Ten out of Ten for consistency I guess!

Weather

Anyway, on to the main thing and the million dollar question, what could these conditions mean for the fishing?

According to our friendly fishing app this week’s doesn’t appear to be the greatest of weeks, the start and the end look ok, with a peak fishing efficiency rating of 64% on Monday and Tuesday, with not a lot in between! However with some overcast relatively mild conditions I’m sure there’ll be a few fish feeding and as they say, as long as you’ve got a line in the water you’ve got a chance!

Best-Day

If you are planning a trip this week and have spring species on the brain, then good luck and of course don’t forget to let us know how you get on! Send any pictures and reports to: contact@anglingdirect.co.uk

My Fishing…

Unfortunately over the last two weeks I haven’t really been out much, infact I’ve only ventured out once, taking my two nephews to Cobbleacre Lakes for a few hours to see if we could catch a few Carp.

Both of them had been crazing me for sometime so I picked a suitable time with my brother and we both headed down, I think he was quite excited about it too! A keen fisherman as a youngster, he hadn’t picked up a rod for nearly 20 years!

Now in the past I’d taken both my nephews and set them up with a short whip, simple float rig and maggots and they’d steadily caught small Roach, Rudd and Perch all day long. But they both wanted a bigger fish and as they are now a little older I thought it was probably time to set them up with a rod and reel!

To cut a long story short, fishing a quivertip and simple running ledger rig and a small PVA bag, we had loads of fish! Lucas my oldest nephew had the biggest fish, a cracking Common around 7-8lb, which I can 100% honestly say we landed himself! He’s still telling the story and showing off the pictures now, he’s also still explaining how hard the fish fought and how much his arms ached!

Harvey, the younger of the two, also got in on the action landing some nice Carp to around 3lb, as well as a couple of Tench! Being two competitive boys, they kept asking who had caught the best fish, I told them it wasn’t about that, the main thing being they had both enjoyed themselves. In the end I settled with biggest fish to Lucas and rarest fish to Harvey (well Tench were rarer than Carp in this particular lake!). They both seemed happy with there achievements and I ended the session with two very happy youngsters, who are already asking when we can go again! Mission accomplished!

As I mentioned last time I wrote, I had a couple of filming sessions to edit and I’m pleased to say the first is now edited and online! Pole Fishing On Stillwater Canals & Snake Lakes, Rigs, Tips & Tactics can be seen below.

With over 1,000 views in the first 24 hours it’s been quite well received and we hope it hits the spot for all those who requested such a film.

What’s in store this week? I’m not too sure in all honesty, I think me and Steve might take the camera out somewhere on Saturday, with specimen Bass or late season Mullet on our radar. Failing that I think we might head to one of our local rivers for a spot of feeder fishing, however whatever happens I’ll be sure to report back next week.

Pictures Of The Week…

It’s the start of September today and the start of a new picture of the month competition, so if you fancy getting in on the action and fancy winning a £50 voucher then get sending your pictures in!

Also it’s worth remembering it’s a picture of the month competition and not a just a fish of the month, so it’s not all about the biggest Carp!

If you want to enter September’s competition and appear on our blog and social sites then feel free to email your pictures and reports to…contact@anglingdirect.co.uk you can also share them with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

I still need to announce Augusts winner and submit September’s album, which I have on my to-do list for tomorrow, so be sure to check it out on the Angling Direct Facebook page.

JRC Reveals It’s New Look For The Iconic Carp Brand

New logo, packaging design and brand slogan seek to capture the essence of the modern carp angler

Established in 1992, JRC has earned the trust of carp anglers through two decades of consistently producing products with a reputation for high performance at a fair price. Now the brand has had a refresh, as we look to the future of the brand. The traditional gold JRC logo known to anglers across Europe is replaced by a fresh red and black colour scheme, a new logo and an update to packaging and marketing materials.

Brand manager, Ralph Dijk explains the thinking behind the new look:

“JRC has evolved over 20 years from its early roots, and we wanted to update the brand’s look to reflect the technical and forward thinking approach of our team. The new logo has a minimal, contemporary design that we love, and there’s a hidden element for the sharp-eyed.

Look closer, the logo reveals a hidden outline of a bivvy – among our best known products – and the cross of St George, representing our English heritage.”

Accompanying the logo update is a refresh of the brands packaging, which has been redesigned to showcase product features and improve the way the products look in store. Branding is now more consistent across the product range, and the new packaging will be phased in over the 2015 season.

England Ladies Finish Fourth In The World Championship

The Angling Trust's England Ladies World Championship coarse fishing team, including our very own Jeanette Haliday, went into this year’s 21st FIPsed Ladies World Angling Championship on the River Sorria, Coruche, Portugal (23rd – 24th August) as reigning champions after a tremendous win in Slovenia last year, but sadly this time just failed to make the podium after finishing in 4th place.

The venue was fairly well known to English anglers after hosting a number of senior and junior events over the last few years, but this time the fishing had changed dramatically. Bleak and carrassio absent in the past suddenly made an appearance resulting in a huge tactical rethink for the English management team…

In Store & Online

The first talking point from last week, dare I even say it, let alone write it down was… Christmas! I know, I know… summers still here and we shouldn’t even mention the word yet, let alone think about it! However with the way things are going and with how busy we are we just had a quick meeting and ‘batted’ a few idea’s around. With all being well and with some crossed fingers, we should have some very exciting and special things happening over this period. Anyway, before I get slammed for it, I’ll stop there!

Back to more current matters, last week, as mentioned above was another extremely busy one, both in store and online, with the generally settled weather seeing anglers out in force. AD regulars and AD staff were also out in force, as once again I was inundated with lots of nice pictures and catch reports from all around the country. As usual you can check them out on our usual channels…

As well as all the usual updates we also added some more special offers online and sent a brand new email newsletter, which you can check out here…

Last week was also a week of positive feedback with kind words and comments from AD customers both old and new, one in particular which really stuck out was from Kevin Ford. Over the last few years hand written letters have almost become extinct, so it was a pleasant surprise to see his letter and picture land on my desk! So a big thanks to Kevin, for that and for his kind words.

Feedback-2

If you’d like to leave us some feedback you can do so on our website, or alternatively you can do so on our Facebook page, just in the last hour we received these two kind comments.

Feedback

Onto this week and it already looks set to be another busy one and the ‘jobs’ list is looking rather healthy indeed! New reviews, blogs, products, promo boxes, pictures of the month and adverts all coming your way! So until next week, with that lot in mind I better sign off and leave you with our product of the week…
