Greys Xlerate Full Shrink Wrap Carp Rod
Greys have made a habit of applying quality engineering to every level of fishing tackle. The size of your budget is unlikely to lead to compromises on component quality so when Greys products are cheap they are hearteningly cheap and also good quality, but when the price tag starts looking more serious that’s when you can bank on high levels of performance.
This Xlerate Carp Rod takes itself seriously so perhaps you should, too. The robust blank is crafted from premium-grade 1k carbon fibre, the supplest raw CF available, which is then stiffened with resins. We don’t know the exact process, and Greys probably wouldn’t tell us, but they incorporate 3M’s Powerlux 1000 nano-scale particles to fill the natural gaps in the fabric of the blank. What you get is a carp rod with a wonderful balance between stiffness for accurate big casts and a fluent bend for playing and scrapping, and its sensitivity will help you sus out the features of a new swim.
The reel seat is also carbon fibre to extend the life and reduce the weight of the rod and it comes with all the assurance of the Fuji brand. It is a hybrid design in that the reel hoods are made with aluminium for added security. The rod’s impressive line management continues with G-Lite XR D.L. Black Edition stainless steel/titanium hybrid ring guides with silicon carbide centres and a specially-angled anti-frap tip ring has been included to minimise crack-offs with heavy terminal tackle. These guides look the business and are built to take water and abrasive line in their stride.
Speaking of looks and longevity, the entire length of this version of the Greys Xlerate Carp Rod has been shrink-wrapped in moody black for an extra layer of protection. Not only this, you’ll get a line clip, an EVA stopper, an engraved stainless steel butt cap, along with neoprene tip and butt protectors, too.
You also get to choose your perfect configuration. There are three 12ft versions with test curves of 3.00lb, 3.25lb, or 3.5lb and one 13ft rod with a 3.5lb test curve. So, if you’re looking for a top-end carp rod with that sought-after combination of progressive action and sensitivity, the Xlerate Carp Rod range fits the bill.
