Hardy Sirrus Glass Rod
Ever since its conception all the way back in 1872, Hardy has designed and manufactured terminal tackle to an extremely high standard and has created some truly innovative products that have transformed the fishing world along the way. It continues to create big game and fly fishing tackle to this day with the same goals and passion the founders had almost 150 years ago. It is constantly striving for improvement in its design so when you invest in one of its products, you can be confident that a huge amount of care and consideration has gone into the design and that you are receiving a high quality product.
This Hardy Sirrus Glass Rod is a part of the superb Sirrus Glass rod range of super smooth and deep loading fly rods. With this innovative design, the company is bringing the advantages of SINTRIX technology to a classic rod range. Its unique SINTRIX Resin impregnated S glass construction sets it apart from every other glass fly fishing rod on the market; it is truly in another class altogether. Thanks to Hardy’s expertise and dedication to enhancing the experience of anglers, you can experience this sublime rod construction with the same classic styling that makes its rods look so good.
The SINTRIX technology is the use of graphite and glass fibres woven together and is no doubt the most unique feature that this rod possesses. Hardy’s rod designers decided to add graphite to the Sirrus glass in order to provide a stronger backbone and a crisper action, and their hard work and innovation paid off. Many fly fishermen find that glass rods are not strong enough or are too flimsy, but the addition of graphite to the blank increases its strength enough to keep it supple yet firm. Whilst only 10% of the blank is graphite, it still has great torsional stability.
Not only is the graphite great for increasing stability, but it decreases the weight of the rod too. Glass is much heavier that graphite and so the rod’s overall weight is reduced with its addition, making it much easier to manoeuvre, handle and transport down to the bank. This rod’s liveliness, lightweight and soft touch make it a perfect fly fishing rod.
This rod is perfectly suited for short range presentations on creeks and small streams. There are very few other rods in its price range on the market that can match or exceed the Sirrus Glass, so if you enjoy fishing at 20-35 feet for smaller fish on spring creeks in the high country, this rod is the ideal choice for you.
Another great thing about this rod is that it features impressive impact resistance and it packs the ability to ‘self-load’ at the closest distances. The rod loads deep in the black, nearly to the cork and is able to shoot lines with ease. What’s more, the blank also features spigot ferrules that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional. This rod is boasting both simplicity of use and brilliant features that make it a joy to use.
The Hardy Sirrus Glass Rod has been designed most intently towards dry fly, dry-dropper and wet fly rigs and is an excellent tool to use in any of these areas. It has exceptional accuracy and delicacy with dries which makes it ideally suited for the small-stream angler.
The blank boasts a super smooth deep loading action and the addition of graphite lessens the wobbly feeling that most anglers associate with fiberglass rods; this rod is a huge step forward for the designs of glass rods and its high-grade fittings and finish make it look great as well.
