Tell Me About It
Korda’s Danny Fairbrass explains the motivation and purpose behind the Embryo 2018 Calendar:
"I am extremely proud to present to you the Embryo Angling Habitats 2018 Calendar. You, the angling community, purchased 2700 of the 3000 calendars we printed for 2017. Because no one took a profit from the sale, including the tackle shop you bought it from, it created £18,900 of revenue that will be spent on two fences for lakes that simply could not afford it from their own reserves. Dorchester Lake (Abingdon and Oxford Anglers' Alliance) has sadly lost several of its most sought after specimens to otter predation prior to our offer for fencing, an extended planning issue delayed the fences installation but it is now set to be completed by spring 2018, so it's remaining jewels will be safe forever. Embryo are also donating five special Priory Fisheries mid doubles to this venue to help rebuild its stock without changing its unique atmosphere. The second venue is Colchester Angling Preservation Society’s Bovington Lakes. CAPS are a hugely worthy club who provide a huge range of open access fishing for a big membership. I have always been inspired by the amazing angling photography on Instagram, so it felt fitting to invite budding photographers from all over the globe to submit their best shots for 2018. We had well over 5000 entries, and choosing the final 12 was nigh on impossible because there were so many spell-binding images. Thanks to all who entered; the overwhelming response has cemented this calendar as an annual event, which is set to hopefully become a carp angling institution that keeps doing good year after year. Thank you for supporting Embryo by purchasing this calendar, I hope you enjoy the incredible images and use the moon phase calendar and top tips from our best anglers to put extra fish in your landing net. Every calendar will create one meter of fencing for a lake that cannot afford it themselves, so your money is literally saving a fish’s life Thank you.”
Why Should I Buy It?
Because you are passionate about angling, and know that, thanks to the food demands of roving otters, there are fewer fish available every year. Even if you personally think otters are kind of cute, you’d prefer them to take their cuteness away from prime fish that deserve to be cruising around for many years to come.
And if you’re not an angler, you should buy this calendar for the stunning photography that showcases just how good some amateurs can be. Whatever side of the fence you’re on, you’ll surely agree that it’s better for fish, otters, and anglers that otters are kept clear of commercial fish stocks, so that those stocks can reach sustainable levels, and contribute in their way to the underwater eco system.
What’s The Best Thing About It?
Stunning photography, helping support a truly British sport, practical information for dedicated angling enthusiasts – there’s really nothing not to like about this calendar: keep an eye out for next year’s. too!
