This is the Mitchell Pro spinning reel for coarse and match fishing, where the 300 design has been beefed up with high performance components and eye-catching looks. Mitchell’s new Bail-Halo rotor design is found at the heart of this reel. This is a materially stronger design that also helps to prevent the bail arms rubbing the spool under load and prevents line from being trapped by the spool.
A shallow, double-anodised aluminium spool that’s able to work with braided mainline is accompanied by a spare, also in lightweight anodised aluminium, and the handle is made from the same material but topped off with an ergonomic EVA knob. 9 + 1 high-performance ball bearings provide a silky action to the 5.8:1 gearing ratio that gives better-than-average line retrieval rates for reels in this class. The drag system has also had a lot of attention. The included hybrid carbon drag discs are self-lubricating and do not react adversely to the build-up of heat. They last a very long time and have the added bonus of reducing the spikes in line tension that can come from hook sets and vigorous fighting fish. Even the drag knob is now lower in profile but still has the same dependable function.
The 300 model hold 219 yards (200m) of mono line and will retrieve it at 33” (84cm) per turn. A 308 model is also available, which can hold 109 yards (100m) of mono and bring it back in at 20.5” (52cm) per turn at a slightly lower gear ratio of 5.2:1.
