Century CQ (Close Quarter) Rods
If you’re an angler who likes to tackle fish at close quarters then you’ll love these purpose built rods from Century. The CQ series has been designed to allow you to get up close and personal with your catch with confidence. There are two different models in the series, each with their own unique strengths, both of which have been built for close quarter carp fishing.
The smallest carp rod in the range is a three piece 9ft rod, which comes in with a test of 3.5lb. This rod is ideal for the angler who targets hard fighting fish in the margins, as well as the angler who finds themselves regularly battling with powerful fish that repeated rush for cover after they take. Although this rod is perfect in close quarters you’ll be surprised how effective it can be at distance fishing too. You won’t have any trouble targeting mid-sized waters or middle distance features with this rod. The butt section of the CQ is able to hold an impressive power reserve and, thanks to the taper lock joint in the midsection, the rod is able to provide a surprising tip speed – especially considering the overall length of the rod. This taper lock joint actually helps overcome many of the problems normally associated with small travel-style rods such as this and it allows for a generous interplay between the butt and mid-section of the rod. The rod has been fitted with large diameter guides, including a size 16 tip guide, which ensures that you don’t have to battle with weed when fishing in snaggy venues or margins.
The longer rod in the range is a two piece 11ft rod, offering a 2.75lb test. This rod has been born out of the FBS series and has been scaled down for use on small venues, as well as for tackling river carp on canals. This rod has been designed with the help of Ken South, who has proved this rod’s ability on 30lb urban canal commons. Designed for the angler who likes to travel light, this rod is ideal for the mobile angler who enjoys employing a stalking approach to their fishing. The rod boasts a cushioning action to ensure solid hooksets and it allows for accurate tackle placement with each cast.
