Chub Outkast 60" Brolly System
Angling brolly systems are the natural product of evolution for the classic oversized umbrella that has served the art of carp angling well for years. By extending the umbrella’s back ribs and cover fabric down to the ground to enclose around three quarters of the covered area, many brollies now approach bivvies in their ability to shelter the angler but the Chub Outkast 60” Brolly System goes one step further by the addition of a door. Fully enclosed against the wind and rain, brolly systems like this offer lightweight portability for overnighters, short sessions, and stalking but with maximum protection from the weather.
The core of the system is the umbrella itself with its 7-spoke plunger that has been set far back and high up to maximise the internal space for you, your bedchair, and your accessories. The height is also adjustable so you can set the brolly’s profile to match the conditions. If it’s blowing a gale, you simply bring it lower down to reduce the chances of it being pushed over and lifted away.
Hot weather poses no problem for the Outkast Brolly System either, thanks to the Back Draft Ventilation System included in the back panel, and you can keep the mozzies out with removable mesh panels. Removable olive-green outer fabric panels and transparent window options are also included to complete your all-weather options.
But it’s the door which elevates this brolly into a ‘system’ and that’s fully customisable, too; you can have it closed shut, wide open, open at the top, or open at the bottom. Keep it watertight, install a transparent panel, or a mosquito net – the choice is yours according to the conditions you face. One weather situation this brolly will always take in its stride is rain. This is a seriously waterproof piece of kit with a 10,000mm hydrostatic head rating. So, if you took a narrow column of water that was 10m high it would be fully supported by the brolly fabric without leaking a drop.
It also comes with a host of smaller but nonetheless useful features, including: an interior mesh pocket for essentials, a lightweight groundsheet, storm poles and strong T-pegs, plus a rod strap to keep your main weapon still while you get it rigged. It all comes in at 8.5kg, which isn’t a heavy load to lug around for a comfortable space with dimensions of 1.3m x 2.7m x 1.75m (H x W x D).
The Chub Outkast 60” Brolly System will see you right for spring and summer and the inclusion of a door makes it a serious option to consider for autumn as well as for overnight sessions. To bring this brolly up to an all-year-round standard, Chub also supply a full 60” brolly overwrap, which is sold separately.
