Greys GR40 Fly Fishing Rod
The GR40 range of moderate-to-fast action fly fishing rods by Greys represents an accessible route for beginners to step up their game. Newcomers to fly fishing often find that slow or moderate action rods, such as the Greys G20 range, help them hone their casting technique because they provide better control over shorter distances. Once casting confidence and ability increases, anglers often find that they want to cast further and not be hampered by wind. Moderate-to-fast action rods are not as affected by wind as slower rods and are flexible enough to accommodate switching tactics, such as moving from using dry flies to nymphs.
The Greys GR40 Fly Rod will allow a fly fisher who has already built up their skill levels to cast longer, faster, and with greater accuracy. The 4-piece carbon fibre blank is rated as having a high intermediate modulus, or measure of resistance to twisting. Twisting blanks divert energy during the cast, reducing accuracy and power. Line-up marks have been included on the blank to keep the guide alignment correct and avoid unnecessary friction on the line. The handle is constructed using high-quality cork for warm and grip in inclement weather and two handles designs are included, according to weight. The options with weight rating of #1, #2, #3, #4, or #5 have Half Wells handles and those with ratings of #7 or #8 come with Full Wells handles plus removable handle extensions. #6-rated rods have the option of either Half or Full Wells, with slight differences in length at 9ft and 9ft 6”, respectively. #3 rods come in 7ft 6” lengths and this goes all the way up to 10ft rods at the #8 rating.
The GR40’s anodised aluminium reel seat means that the rod will not suffer from corrosion if used in saltwater or brackish swims. The reel will also be secured tightly by locking nuts, which is essential when putting power behind your casts. All options come with hook keeper rings, laser-engraved butt caps, and smart Cordura rod tubes.
The GR40 Fly Rod is an example of Greys’s twin dedication to providing high-quality fishing tackle at accessible price points. What else could you expect of a manufacturer with nearly fifty years of global experience?
