The Distance DTS certainly offers you value for your buck and many of the features on the reel wouldn’t look out of place on a reel of twice its price. The spool is constructed from graphite – a material which has been long favoured among tackle companies thanks it its dual properties of being both lightweight and extremely strong – and is in a conical shape. This unique shape ensures that line leaves the reel in large loops which not only reduces the risk of tangles but also increases the distance you are able to achieve with your cast. Another feature which helps extend the distance of your cast is the reel’s worm shaft oscillation. This ensures you achieve perfect line lay – a vital aspect of gaining those extra few meters on your cast.

One of the biggest problems for sea fishing tackle manufacturers is the highly corrosive nature of saltwater. Significantly more corrosive than fresh water due to the number of particles carried per cubic inch, when saltwater dries in the body of your reel it leaves behind lots of rough salt particles. These cause friction in the reel and corrode your vital gearing and drag functions. This is why Okuma has fitted the Distance DTS with a Hydro Block front drag. This system prevents water from entering the reel in the first place, almost completely eliminating the problem of corrosion wear altogether.
