Launching Fishing's Future – and Starting Young

On 20th May, the Forum, Norwich sees the launch of the Broads Angling Services Group, a community interest group which unites the business, tourism, angling, and regulatory communities who live, work, and relax around the Broads network in Norfolk.

This day, which runs from 10am-4pm on Sunday, also sees Angling Direct formally announce our support of Fishing For Schools, an initiative which aims to show there are no barriers, social, physical, or otherwise, to a wider participation of children and young people in one of Britain's oldest sports.

Fishing For Greater Involvement

Whether it's working with our suppliers to fulfil tackle wishlists, or raising money through in-store collection points and online donations, Angling Direct is looking at a wide range of ways that we can offer the most effective support to an initiative that we're really excited about.

As the UK's largest tackle retailer, Angling Direct have always been keen to support greater involvement, from as young as is realistic, safe, and possible, in a sport that's not just our day job; many of our staff have fond memories of being taught to fish by parents and grandparents, in disciplines ranging from pike angling to fly fishing, at locations the length and breadth of Britain, with some of our staff even having enjoyed family angling holidays in India, Thailand, and other countries known for large, wild fish. With fond memories firmly cemented by these early experiences, it's natural for us to be enthusiastic about anything that encourages more children and young people to pick up a rod for the first time.

Reeling In The Benefits

For children, being involved in angling, as in any sport, brings immeasurable benefits; the opportunity to be outside in the fresh air, the chance to learn, from personal experience, about the British countryside; not just the rivers, lakes, oceans, and fish, but the wider flora and fauna that rely on them, and help sustain them, all help create well-rounded, confident individuals.

Unlike many sports, angling is also inclusive of more introverted individuals, and those with disabilities, which helps children encounter people who are a little different to them, and the friends they've made up until that point.

If you'd like to learn more about Fishing For Schools, and Angling Direct's support, then come to Norwich on Sunday 20th May, drop into the Forum between 10am-4pm, and hear more about what Fishing For Schools hopes to achieve, and how Angling Direct intend to support them, as well as finding out more about what the Broads network means for anglers, residents, tourists, and businesses, and how you can enjoy more of these iconic Norfolk waters, whether you're an avid angler, or don't know your casts from your casters.
