The Broads, an area close to our hearts here in Norfolk, forms Britain's largest and finest wetland. A very special living, working landscape and an important centre for navigation and leisure activities such as angling.

The natural beauty of the Broads landscape and its importance for wildlife is reflected by a number of National, European and International conservation designations, including Special Areas of Conservation and Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

By necessity, this delicate balance of interests leads to a complex management system for the area involving local authorities, Natural England, the Broads Authority, the Environment Agency, Norfolk Wildlife Trust and other specialist interests including, of course, anglers.

Angling and fisheries play a key role in supporting the rural economy in the Broads, accounting for at least 16 percent of the 7.2 million visitors to the area and contributing in excess of £88 million to the local economy each year.

Given the local, regional and national importance of the Broads for angling and the complexity of the issues that can affect the area, anglers have always had a strong interest in the way the Broads is managed.

At Angling Direct, because we are serious about fishing, we recognize the importance of the Broads both in terms of its social economic and environment value, with it being England's largest fresh water fishery. We wish to work with the BASG and key partners to ensure these values are both maintained and enhanced so they can be enjoyed by all for the future.

We look forward to working closely with the BASG and they have our full support, hopefully through the years we can develop and long and prosperous relationship with their organisation and members.
