Five Things That Are Great About Today!

June 16th is looking more crowded than usual on our calendar this year – for all the best reasons. With so many fantastic things happening we wouldn’t be surprised if one or two will have slipped your mind – we know we’re having trouble remembering it all! Here, in no particular order, are just five of the things that make today great:

1.) River Season Opens! For all the coarse anglers out there the last couple of months have meant a lot of sitting on hands, with feet itching to get back out to the river bank. Today is the day that we’re once again allowed to line the UK’s rivers, trying (hopefully successfully) to land a fish or two. As much as we’ve enjoyed fishing the commercial in the closed season, it feels good to get back on to the flowing water! Let us know on Twitter and Facebook if you’ve managed to get out on the bank today – or if you’ve got grand plans for the upcoming weekend.



2.) King of the Catch is Back! That’s right, the biggest competition in angling is back and bigger than ever! This year’s competition sees the return of the coarse, carp, sea, and predator categories, as well as a brand new junior category – open to anglers aged 14 and under. Today marks the first day you’re able to upload pictures of your most impressive catch from the last 12 months so, if you haven’t already, it’s time for you to scroll back through your photographs to find your winning picture. With first place prizes including a once-in-a-lifetime fishing trip for each category, and plenty of runner-up treats to be grabbed, this isn’t something you want to miss out on! Remember, you need to get people voting to be in for the chance to be crowned king, or queen, of the catch, so upload your photo and get sharing! 5.) Royal Ascot Gold Cup! One of the biggest events in the horse-racing calendar, this year the competition has been temporarily renamed to honour the Queen’s 90th Birthday, but the course (and our excitement) will be the same as always. We can never resist a (responsible) little flutter on the races and we’ll be waiting with baited breath to see if our tip comes out on top! With soft ground conditions predicted after all the heavy rain we’ve been experiencing it looks set to be a cracking race.
