Tackle Tuesday… Wychwood C-301 Carp Rods

With cork handles and 50mm butt rings bang on trend, our friends at ACF, explore the multitude of features on the Wychwood C-301 rods.

The Wychwood brand has been on the Carp scene since 1989, producing countless rods for the varying applications along the way. The latest and greatest to come from its stable is the C-301 Classic, and is available in 2.75lb, 3lb and 3.25lb test-curve options, all 12 feet in length.

With the likes of Wychwood-sponsored angler Jon McAllister currently using them, they have to be a great contender in the market, especially with the retail price coming in well under the £200 barrier, and being as pleasing on the eye as they are.

A 50mm butt ring on the stronger two models will instantly tick boxes for a lot of anglers, and the sea guide rings have been custom spaced, which, grouped together with the thin blank and Wychwood's multi-layer technology (MLT), make for a strong rod thats capable of achieving great distances.



The blank is high quality Japanese-sourced carbon construction and the tip is still noticeably soft to cater for playing fish in close. The whole rod is light in the hands and a genuine all-rounder, with reserve power in the butt and a carbon finished line clip to aid bite detection.

Finished in a 1K-Carbon weave, the rods are completed to a very high standard. The small, gold and white, minimal graphics sit just above the Fuji reel seat, blending in subtly, and the long high-grade cork handle tapers out towards the deep grey of the metal engraved butt cap.

An extensive manufacturers warranty on all Wychwood rods extends to the high-end C-301 models, should you need to utilise it, and they are supplied housed in a standard cloth rod bag. A set of three, stylish and subtle, cork-handled rods that will set you back a fraction over £500 - certainly an option to consider.
