Wednesday Review... Sonik S4 Carp Rods

Reviewed by Advanced Carp Fishing Magazine… Advanced-Carp-Fishing-Logo I was asked to test the new Sonik S4 rods for a review some weeks ago and have managed to get out on the bank with them several times. They look great on my setup with their understated, minimal styling and the carbon weave really sets them off. There’s a flash of red on the whippings and a small branded Sonik logo and I used the shrink-wrap-handle option in 3.25lb test curve.

During the test period I fished differing venues, one requiring me to cast at range in strong winds and the other a smaller, more intimate water - both of which proved no trouble for the blanks.

The big casts proved effortless, which agrees with their long-range powerhouse label, and they handled a sizeable fish under the rod tip surprisingly well too. After a hard fight the fish refused to be beaten and darted in every direction just feet from the bank - I was amazed with the tip action all the more after ‘chucking’ them the previous session and seeing their brute strength.

I also think it’s worth mentioning that the built-in line clip does as it should, but more importantly doesn’t crimp your line like many others do.

The rods feel strong and are very capable when casting 4oz tournament leads, so will be most at home on larger, big-pit-type venues. They look great, perform well, have a ‘breakdown’ friendly ringing pattern making them easier to transport.
