Product Description

Shimano Catana RB Reel

If you’re looking for a top end reel which doesn’t have a top end price tag then you need look no further than the Shimano Catana RB. Whether you’re a beginner angler who is looking for your first top quality reel or you’re a lifelong angler who wants to enjoy the performance of a high end product without breaking the bank then this is the ideal reel for you.

At first glance it is apparent that this is one reel that means serious business. Produced in a stunning deep red, this is a reel for the angler who wants to stand out from the crowd on the bank – for all of the right reasons – and it certainly announces itself as a classy reel from the off. Picking up this reel you’ll notice its low weight too. With the 1000 model weighing in at a mere 245g, the 2500 and 3000 models both tipping the scales at 285g, and the 4000 model less than 100g more than that (at 385g), this is a reel that will perfectly balance on any modern fishing setup. This low weight is thanks to the reel’s XT-7 body. XT-7 is Shimano’s go to material for a reel that is both lightweight and exceptionally rigid – durability comes as standard when you invest in a Shimano product. As soon as you start to use the reel you’ll notice that you’ve barely scratched surface of what this reel can achieve.

The Shimano Catana RB features two shielded ball bearings, as well as an additional roller bearing. This provides a quality of smoothness normally associated with reels of a much larger budget and it ensures that this reel can offer a high level of durability. The spool on the reel is manufactured on the AR-C concept. This integrates a v-shaped spool lip into the design, which releases line in tighter and more controlled coils. This, in turn, reduces the possibility of wrap ups, snags, and excessive friction build up on the cast – not only prolonging the life of your fishing line but also helping you to achieve longer and more accurate distance casts. This reel is compatible with both monofilament and braided mainline, too, proving that the Catana is a versatile reel.

As you might expect from a top end piece of Shimano tackle, this reel is loaded with technology that ensures you can perform to the very best of your ability each time you head down to the bank. One such technology is Varispeed. This is Shimano’s line lay technology which pairs a traditional oval gear with a unique square gear. The pairing of these two gear, whilst appearing incongruous, actually ensures that you can enjoy perfectly parallel line lay. This line lay allows you to make the most of Power Roller on your cast, and the chance of tangles and twists are significantly reduced when you’re fishing with this reel. DynaBalance, Shimano’s anti-wobble system, ensures that you can enjoy reel sensitivity, too, giving you a clear picture of all the action under the water.

The Catana RB comes with an additional diecast aluminium spare spool as standard. Shimano has been producing top quality reels since 1970, and with 100 years of expertise in bicycle gears, it really is the expert company for all things rotational. A family business, the company has been operating out of its Japanese head offices for the better part of a century, although the vast majority of its tackle sold in the UK has been produced in its Scottish factory – its largest outside the Far East. All the reels off the line are produced to exacting Japanese standards and no matter the price bracket you can be confident that, when you invest in a Shimano reel, you’re investing in a quality piece of tackle.
