FishingTheMind is using the power of angling to support people facing mental health challenges and improve wellbeing within local communities. The project delivers free fishing sessions led by a qualified wellbeing angling coach, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for children, families and individuals who may be struggling with confidence, social isolation or emotional wellbeing.
By bringing people together through fishing, the project aims to build self-esteem, strengthen relationships and encourage positive social interaction, all while enjoying the benefits of spending time outdoors. Participants also have the opportunity to develop practical fishing skills, learn about the natural environment and become part of a supportive community. FishingTheMind demonstrates how angling can be much more than a hobby, providing a positive outlet that helps people connect, learn and thrive.

Top Cast Angling is working to improve the environment and biodiversity at Traffic Ecology Park Lake, helping to create a healthier and more sustainable fishery for future generations. In partnership with Groundwork Greater Manchester, the project will focus on habitat improvements including aquatic planting and carefully managed tree work to enhance water quality and provide better conditions for wildlife and fish populations.
A key part of the project is the involvement of young people, who will gain valuable hands-on experience in conservation and environmental stewardship. Through practical participation, they will learn about protecting natural habitats while helping to create an accessible outdoor space that can be enjoyed by the wider community. The project combines environmental improvement with education, helping to develop both the fishery and the next generation of custodians for the sport.

West Yorkshire Angling Action Group is looking to expand its successful Angling Academy, creating more opportunities for people to learn, develop and enjoy fishing. The project will help recruit and train additional volunteer coaches, allowing the group to deliver even more beginner and advanced coaching sessions across the region.
By keeping activities free and accessible, the acad emy removes barriers that can prevent people from trying the sport or progressing their skills. Participants benefit from structured coaching, educational sessions and opportunities to take part in regional and national angling events. The project plays an important role in encouraging participation among young people and ensuring that more individuals have the opportunity to experience the confidence, skills and enjoyment that angling can provide.
