Best Rivers to Fish in the World - with Ade Kiddell

To celebrate World Rivers Day which annually falls on the fourth Sunday of September, I have gathered some facts about my personal top three favourite rivers that I have fished. Rivers are great for many disciplines from carp to catfish to trout!

1) The River Severn - England

The longest river in Great Britain, the River Severn is about 354 kilometres long. It rises in the Cambrian Mountains of mid-Wales and then the river flows through Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. The county towns of Shrewsbury, Worcester, and Gloucester are great riverbank locations before discharging into the Bristol Channel. Fishing on the Severn is great for its water flow in England and Wales.

Why fish on the River Severn?

I have fished the River Severn many times, from an Anglers point of view The Severn throughout its entire length offers everything from game fishing through to sea fishing and has some of the best river coarse fishing in the U.K. I have caught many species of fish from The Severn but without doubt, barbel is my favourite species from the river, over the years I have caught thousands from the river.

2) The Danube River - Germany

The Danube River is 2850 km long, beginning in the Black Forest region of Germany and running through 10 countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine! The river merges into the Black Sea.

Fishing at Danube River

I fished The Danube in Germany a few years ago, the target was barbel, but I also managed carp, catfish and bream. The area I fished around Kelheim was beautiful and somewhere high on my list to revisit!

3) The River Nile - Eygpt

The Nile is credited as one of the longest rivers in the world. From its farthest stream in Burundi, it extends 6,695 km (4,160 miles) in length and flows through 11 countries. Its main source is Lake Victoria in east-central Africa.

River Nile Fishing

I was lucky enough to fish The Nile around 10 years ago, I travelled from the UK to Egypt and fished Lake Nasser a dammed off a section of The Nile. The dream was to catch a large Nile Perch which was fulfilled when I landed a 110lb fish with only hours left of the trip! This perch remains my biggest ever freshwater fish, a memory I will never forget.
