I Love It When A Plan Comes Together...

With conditions hard, spring still yet to have sprung, freezing night temperatures and strong easterly winds, to say conditions haven’t been ideal would be an understatement! With the weather like this and with work very busy, I haven’t always been able to get out on the bank, as much as I’d like too. So when I have been, I’ve been working extra hard to try and bank a fish or two.

My latest approach has been based around a light pre-baiting campaign, which has linked in nicely with the stocking of the excellent CC Moore baits in the Angling Direct shops. After meeting the guys from CC Moore at the latest Carp show, I was very impressed with their bait, one range in particular the CC Moore Live system really caught my attention. To cut a long story short, my bait freezers were soon fully loaded with 15kg of the prime boilies!

The light pre-baiting campaign started a few sessions ago, and at the end of every session I fished I started to introduce around a kilo or so of boilies into a couple of likely looking areas. Even though bait was only trickled into a few areas, I spread the baits over a reasonable patch, to enable me to fish the area from a multitude of swims, if the lake was particularly busy.

With most of my fishing being very short sessions I hoped that I may be able to build up a small area where fish felt confident to feed, and to offer them a high quality food source bait, that would be readily available.

After regularly baiting the spots I slowly started to fish them, and soon I was rewarded with a nice brace of 20’s, the first being a 24lb 2oz Mirror known as Fungus and the second being a cracking Common of 26lb 2oz known as Split Tail.

Both fish were landed from the pre-baited spot and both were landed on the CC Moore range of bait… To be precise CC Northern Specials mounted on fluorocarbon combi rigs, with the deadly Gardner size 10 Covert Mugga hooks. Not the biggest fish in the world, but in the conditions and after putting the time and effort in it was a welcome reward.
