Native Wels Catfish in UK waters - with Martyn Page

Angling Direct's very own Executive Chairman, Martyn Page, has recently had a great catch of large catfish over at Homersfield Lake, and we, here at Team AD wants to congratulate him on such an impressive session! The 35-acre lake of Homersfield holds an amazing stock of fish, including mirror and common carp, roach, bream, perch and British Wels Catfish. Formerly owned by Norman Symonds, and now ran by Martin Symonds, this is a body of water that offers a great session of angling.

On Martyn's first trip out this season, he went all out on a 24-hour session! This certainly paid off with the result of 3 big cats totally up to 240lbs! The trio of Wels Catfish included an 86lbs (as seen above), a 56lbs and a stunning 98lbs! We are sure Martyn had his hands full with these huge catches!

Martyn commented that 'the catch may well be the biggest brace and possibly also the biggest trio of freshwater fish ever caught in the UK.' We could not agree more! Landing three specimen catfish deserves a big well done. All three of Martyn's catfish were bred and grown naturally in the UK and must be some of the biggest freshwater fish in the UK! For a native English fish, not an import the 98lb has us blown away. Martyn says this catch is one pound less than his 99 cat last year but reckons it might well be the same fish!

With seeing our Executive Chairman have such success on the bankside, we want to encourage you to take up fishing and share the wonders of what can get caught in our great UK waters. Be sure to share your catches to our social media, whether it is tagging in AD Instagram or shared on our Angling Direct Facebook, or Twitter. Get out to the bank, take snaps of your catches and inspire your fellow anglers to land as big as catch after catch as Martyn has.
