Frank ‘The Tank’ Christy

They say they don’t make them like they used to; well, this is 100% true when we talk about the Angling Direct legend that is Mr Frank Christy. After working in the same store since 1976 Frank has officially hung up his maggot riddle and retired. Nicknamed Frank ‘the tank’ by our own Hassan Khan, Frank was a huge character and integral part of the team, as a man he is irreplaceable for so many reasons, and a real testament to what hard work and being a gentlemen can get you.

Frank has seen various names above the door, from Hindley Tackle, North West Angling Centre and now Angling Direct Wigan. As an angler his pedigree is exceptional. Having started way back in the early '70’s fishing for Warrington AA on Grey Mist. He went on to fish for the Abram Labour Club all over the North West in various competitions and leagues. He won both Match League 1 and Match League 2 on canals during this time, but his greatest achievement must be catching 71lb of dace in a match, setting the River Eden match record. He even ventured over to Ireland, where he landed a staggering 268lb of bream in a match on the castle wall at Enniskillen.

He shared all this knowledge with anyone and everyone in the most unassuming, modest way. Frank has been a huge source of comedy as well as being an all round hard working colleague to all staff who have been fortunate enough to work alongside him. He was pleased as punch to see the shop restored to its glory days under Angling Direct and he still often calls in for some customary Northern banter.

From everyone at Angling Direct; Frank we wish you the happiest of retirements, and we cannot thank you enough. width=
