Tackle Tuesday... New Trakker 2016

When I ventured north to Trakker’s HQ for a sneak preview of its autumn/winter 2016 launches, a few products in particular left a lasting impression. With the embargo consequently lifted following a late-September launch, I can finally share them with you here.

Trakker Tempest Composite & Brolly Utility Fronts This could end up being my product of the year: I love it. Quite simply, the two versions attach to either a Tempest Composite or Tempest Brolly to convert them to a genuine two-man shelter. Essentially, an elasticated section sits over the Tempest rib and then the whole thing extends forwards to an Armo-style front pole. It’s ridiculously easy to set up and, once it’s on, you can easily get two bedchairs in lengthways. I use a Tempest Brolly and shall be buying one of these so that I can take my young son fishing without having to lug a huge two-man bivvy around. It will also appeal to those who want to take the missus along on their trips. There are also separate groundsheets available to match.

Trakker Core Multi-Suit Trakker is back! The old Trakker Armo suit sold in its hundreds, with its combination of multi-functional garments with amazing value for money. Now, several years on, Trakker has launched the latest in clothing offering similar, but this one is on a totally different level.

It looks absolutely superb, with two shades of green, the Trakker logo and some great red-contrast detailing. Functionally it impresses too, with the trousers and jacket combining to offer a relatively lightweight waterproof suit and then the additional fleece jacket that zips in to add yet another level of insulation.

Trakker NXG XL PVA Pouch The name of this great luggage item does it no justice because it’s really so much more than just for keeping PVA in.

I’ve had one of the smaller versions for some time and use it to store all manner of items, but this bigger one is exactly the size that I prefer. In fact, I reckon I can probably fit all of my terminal tackle, PVA, leads and extras needed for all but the longest sessions. This is an absolute winner and proof positive that the best products don’t always need to the big stuff.

Trakker N2 Chest Waders This was probably the one item that caught my eye before the others, purely because it’s Trakker’s first foray into the wader market, and I’d say the boys up there have nailed it. Well made, lightweight and very easy to get on and off quickly, they tick all the boxes for the modern carp angler, more of whom seem to own and use ‘chesties’ these days.

Adjustable, elasticated straps complete with Trakker detailing and twin, adjustable waist straps mean the perfect fit is easily achieved, while the PVA boot is rugged but flexible at the same time.

Each pair also comes with a dedicated air-drying carry bag. When I was up at Trakker, Rory from Climax Tackle was also there and we both agreed that Trakker could easily sell these on their own, so to get one free with the waders is a proper bonus!

Trakker RLX Combi Chair Designed to truly be one chair to suit all situations, the Combi is exactly that. It’s a well-dimensioned chair with plenty of padding and support in all the right places. Even with as what you might politely call a bigger frame like mine, it’s plenty comfortable.

Fold the rear leg and it converts to one of those chairs that can sit on your bedchair (what exactly do they call those, anyway?) and it works really well in this guise. Finally, the clever bit, the whole of the cover and padding removes to reveal a mesh construction underneath. This can be used as a lightweight summer chair, with plenty of air circulation, or you might just want to remove the top section to dry it out after a wet one.
