Chinook III Charter Fishing Report – March

The last fortnight has seen lighter winds which has enabled the boats to get out on a regular basis where our anglers have had some cracking sport.

There are a lot more Thornback rays showing up inshore and numbers will increase as the water warms up, these hard fighting rays will take all sorts of fish, worm and crab baits presented hard on the bottom and can be caught on a lot of days when other fish don't feed.

There have been a lot more better whiting coming inshore, these lovely little fish feed agressively and like worm and mackerel baits fished on a trace or paternoster rig, don't go too light because you might catch a ray on the same rig.

There are a few cod still around with reports of several fish up to 8 lb although we havent seen a spring run as we went to press, however that could change quickly so keep an eye on the reports. Certainly the beaches in Suffolk are seeing good cod so lets hope they are on their way.

The Estuaries and piers are quiet at the moment with too many herring, however as soon as they move out which will be soon the fishing will improve with skate, whiting and odd cod showing, best baits are squid and lug.

Offshore is fishing well for skate, whiting and odd good cod, there is always a chance of a big cod in March.

Prospects are excellent, as the water starts to warm up more fish will turn up.
