Chinook III Charter Fishing Report – November

The weather has turned wet and windy which has affected our trips but when we have got to sea the fishing has been superb with more bigger cod showing up.

Inshore has been excellent with some cracking cod starting to turn up, our best last week at 12lb for Gavin Piper on his first Autumn trip this year, another double of 10lb also fell to Mat Smith from Cambridgeshire. There have also been plenty around 5-6 lb with a few at 8 lb, best baits are squid and lug fished hard on the bottom.

There have been plenty of thornbacks inshore with the best reported at a whopping 21lb on John Rawle's boat last friday, all these bigger females are returned alive as they are spawning all year round. These fish will take most baits but squid is best this time of year as it is a favourite for the cod as well.

The piers are fishing well on the bigger tides with plenty of codling, whiting, pout and odd thornbacks, best time is usually first half of the ebb tide.

The Estuaries are improving with stacks of whiting and a few more cod up to 8 lb reported. The weed is slowly dying off making it much easier to fish now.

Offshore has picked up with the odd really nice cod starting to show, there are less dogfish and a few more good thornbacks.

Prospects are superb with a good chance of a personal best cod this winter.
