Carp Fishing In The Winter Months

Originally for this session we had planned a trip with Angling Direct big Carp ace Rob Shanks, however due to illness Rob was unable to make it, but rather than cancelling the session we thought we'd still get out there and give it ago.

We the weather turning wintery and temperatures plummeting we chose a venue which was well known as a runs water, as at this time of year any Carp on the bank it often a rewarding one and a very welcome sight. The lake which fitted the bill perfectly was a lake called Runnel, also known as Mill Farm, part of the Barford complex it can be booked on request and can take up to seven anglers.

As we arrived at the lake fortune was in our favour as we were the only anglers who had braved the conditions and we had the whole lake completely to ourselves! With the luxury of this, we opted to fish bang in the middle of the railway bank; this would enable us to cover as much water as possible, and to cast baits to any signs of feeding fish.

We soon got the tackle set up and the rods in the water, we chose to fish small PVA bags of pellet and groundbait, with a small dumbbell shaped boilie pellet on the hook. The plan for the session was to regularly re-cast, covering as much water as possible and trying to find out where the fish were holed up.
